About Our Team

Paul has specialist expertise and experience in both corporate and personal insolvency and has practiced in corporate recovery and insolvency since 1991 whilst working at Ernst & Young, Jirsch Sutherland, Lawler Partners, Ferrier Hodgson Newcastle and most recently, Shaw Gidley.

Paul has detailed experience in the building and construction industry, manufacturing, fabrication and engineering, retail/wholesale, indigenous enterprise and related bodies and the club and hotel industry.

Paul has also had extensive voluntary involvement with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association (ARITA), both regional and state level, as an elected committee member, membership development, papers and seminars. Paul is also past treasurer of Hunter Business Group, and current member of the Certified Practising Accountants of Australia and Turnaround Management Association.

James has more than 30 years of experience in corporate and personal insolvency and reconstruction. 

James has practiced in both corporate recovery and insolvency since 1989. He became a partner of Ferrier Hodgson Newcastle in 1998 and in conjunction with Paul Gidley formed the firm Shaw Gidley in 2006.

James has been appointed personally to in excess of 1,000 corporate and personal insolvency matters including Voluntary Administrations, Creditors Voluntary Liquidations, Court Liquidations, Provisional Liquidations, Receiverships, Controller, Court Appointed Receiver, Court Appointed Trustee pursuant to S66G of the Conveyancing Act, Trustee in Bankruptcy, Trustee of Personal Insolvency Agreements and Trustee for sale in Family Law Proceedings.

James also has undertaken a number of forensic accounting assignments, including loss quantification, damages assessment, business valuation and solvency/insolvency reports and has broad experience in all industries with specialised experience in the mining industry, construction industry, property, manufacturing, engineering and retail.

As a Registered Liquidator, and a highly regarded restructuring specialist, Jeff has in excess of 18 years expertise across a range of industries including construction, retail, hospitality, clubs and manufacturing.

Whether it is developing a restructuring plan under a safe harbour engagement, providing asset protection strategies to clients, or undertaking formal insolvency appointments, his solutions based approach, and ability to provide clear and honest advice, tailored to individual circumstances, assists to take the fear and apprehension out of the insolvency process.

Jeff holds a Bachelor of Commerce, is a member of the Australian Restructuring and Turnaround Association and is a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Away from the office you can usually find Jeff relaxing with his family, playing golf or sailing in some of Australia's premier offshore yachting events.

Scott is a Director with Shaw Gidley and has two decades of experience in all aspects of corporate insolvency and reconstruction, both in Australia and the UK. He has been involved in assignments involving SME's up to publicly listed companies, across a broad spectrum of industries and in particular in the property, mining, manufacturing and construction areas. 

Scott holds a Bachelor of Commerce, is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association. He is also a Registered Liquidator and Registered Trustee in Bankruptcy.

Ben is a Director with Shaw Gidley Port Macquarie and has over 12 years of broad experience in both corporate and personal insolvency administrations. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with joint studies in Accounting and Finance and a Bachelor of Actuarial Studies. 

Ben is also a Chartered Accountant, a member of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association and a Registered Liquidator.

Gemma is the team leader of our bankruptcy division. With over 12 years experience with Shaw Gidley, Gemma has developed a personal and sympathetic approach to assist individuals facing financial issues.
